WARNING

Don’t Do It! New Siri Port H1Siri Is Illegal, Breaks Your iPhone
iPhone jailbreakers should probably stay away from the latest Siri port, dubbed H1Siri, which brings Apple’s digital assistant to the iPhone 4. The new hack comes from a group of Chinese hackers calling themselves the “CD-Dev Team.” According to the team’s account on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging service similar to Twitter), the hackers had originally wanted to just run a small test, but the code was leaked. Now their servers can’t keep up with the demand.

But beyond server unresponsiveness, there are several other good reasons to skip this hack, including the fact that it seems to break people’s phones and involves running illegal code.

H1Siri (aka, Hi Siri!), for those of you tracking the Siri-hacking space, is a different hack from the one that emerged in October and the other arriving last month.

According to iDownloadBlog, which wisely advises readers to be wary of this new port after its own tests with H1Siri failed, the new port involves the use of copyrighted binaries from the iPhone 4S. Simply put, it works because it uses illegal code. Notable iPhone hacker @chpwn (Grant Paul), confirms this.

He also points out another good reason to think carefully before installing H1Siri on your iPhone 4: it gives the software’s creators access to your personal data:

Those are all very good reasons to avoid H1Siri, but if your Siri lust can’t be assuaged, maybe this last bit of info will: the darned thing doesn’t really work.

Numerous posts from brave (crazy) early adopters report various complaints after installing. For example, it has been said to cause random reboots, break the camera, brick the phone, mess up the Settings app, cause the phone to get stuck at the Apple logo and other such things.

EXAMPLE

Step 1: Download iOS 5 Beta 5 for your iDevice.

Step 2: Download iTunes 10.5 beta 5 for Windows and Mac. You need the latest pre-release beta of iTunes so that it sync with iOS 5 beta 5.

Step 3: Install iOS 5 beta 5 on your device using your computer. Don t actually set up your device on iOS 5 beta as first you need to jailbreak it. Follow this tutorial to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 5 tethered and after that, boot your device tethered.. Keep in mind that this does not work with the iPad 2.

Step 4: Basically, you need to delete a key and string from within the filesystem of your device in order to install iOS 5 beta 5 without developers account. To gain access to the filesystem, you need software. i-Funbox for Windows and iPhone Explorer for Mac are the two most perfect software for this job.

Step 5: Launch the relevant software and go to this path: filesystem/library/coreservices/systemversion.plist. Once you locate the systemversion.plist file, right click on it and then open it in notepad. Once opened, locate and remove: <key>ReleaseType</key> <string>beta</string>. When you remove it, save changes to the file.

Step 6: Once you have done this process, reboot your device. Because it is jailbroken, you will have to boot it tethered. Your device is now running iOS 5 beta 5 without developers account or a UDID activation. No more this device is not registered as part of the iphone developer program errors. If you did this on an iPhone, you shall be able to use cellular services as well.

Note: If you are a unlocked iPhone users, please stay away from the iOS 5 beta 5 in case of losing your unlock. Hope it is helpful. Here we also provide the iOS 5 beta 5 download in the following. If you want to know more, please stay tuned, we will post better information.

How to install Windows 8 from a USB drive

Editors note: the below article was first published in September 2011.
For many enthusiasts theres nothing quite like getting your hands on a shiny new release of Microsofts Windows operating system. And thats precisely why the web is buzzing with all things Microsoft, as the software giant has made available a Consumer Preview of its next flagship OS, Windows 8.

The Consumer Preview is strictly a pre-release version of Windows 8 and is free to try, but Microsoft is keen to stress that the software is "not the finished product," and states that "you should back up your data and you shouldnt test Windows 8 Consumer Preview on your primary home or business PC."
Food for thought, but if you are intent on trying Windows 8 and you have no intention of donating a blank DVD, heres a brief guide on how to easily install Windows 8 from a USB pen drive.
Heres what you need: a USB pen drive (4GB or greater in size), the Windows 8 Consumer Preview disk image file (64-bit download here, 32-bit download here), Microsofts Windows 7 USB tool (download here) and a working PC.
Once you have all those, follow these steps:

1. Install and run Microsofts Windows 7 USB tool. In the subsequent window (pictured below), browse to the 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 8 disk image file youve already downloaded and hit next.

2. With your USB stick plugged in (remember, itll need to be at least 4GB in size for a 64-bit install), choose USB device as your media type.

3. Select the correct removable device from the drop-down menu, then click begin copying.

4. Sit back, relax, and make a cuppa while the USB tool formats your pen drive, makes it bootable, and copies over all of the Windows 8 files.

5. Once the process is complete, the USB drive can be used to boot a PC and run the Windows 8 setup process.

Thats all there is to it. Youll save yourself a blank DVD, the Windows 8 setup process should be quicker from flash-based media, and its of course a must on netbooks or laptops without an optical drive.
Already running the Windows 8 preview?
